The Kodak 32 inch (80 cm) Special Edition Series 32SE5001BL represents a targeted entry into the compact smart television market, specifically designed for users seeking a balance of brand heritage and modern digital functionality. As a Smart HD Ready LED TV, this model is positioned as an efficient, space-saving solution for bedrooms, small apartments, or secondary living areas where high-definition content and smart connectivity are required without the footprint of a much larger display. By leveraging the Kodak brand name, this Special Edition series aims to provide a reliable viewing experience through a combination of high-brightness display technology and an integrated smart ecosystem.

Targeted primarily at budget-conscious consumers and those living in urban environments with limited space, the 32SE5001BL offers a streamlined interface powered by a Linux operating system. This makes it an ideal choice for viewers who prioritize direct access to popular streaming platforms like YouTube, Prime Video, Sony Liv, and Zee5. With its HD Ready resolution and specialized audio configuration, the device is engineered to deliver a cohesive multimedia experience within a compact 32-inch form factor.

Core Specifications & Architecture

At the heart of the Kodak 32SE5001BL is a technical architecture designed to optimize performance within the constraints of a 32-inch chassis. The display is built around a Durable A+ Grade DLED panel, which serves as the foundation for its visual output. This panel is capable of a 16:9 aspect ratio and provides a wide 178-degree viewing angle, ensuring that color accuracy and image clarity remain consistent even when viewed from the side.

The technical specifications regarding the display and processing include:

• Resolution: HD Ready (1366 x 768 pixels)
• Refresh Rate: 60 Hz
• Response Time: 8 milliseconds
• Contrast Ratio: 4000:1
• Display Technology: LED (A+ Grade)
• Graphics Coprocessor: Mali-450 GPU
• Memory Configuration: 0.5 GB (512 MB) RAM and 4 GB ROM storage
• Operating System: Linux

The processing power is managed by a Mali-450 GPU, which works in tandem with the 512 MB of RAM to handle interface navigation and media playback. While the memory capacity is modest, the use of a Linux-based OS is a strategic choice to ensure the system remains responsive for its intended applications. The 4 GB of internal storage provides the necessary space for the operating system and essential application data, allowing for a stable smart TV environment.

Connectivity is a significant aspect of the device's architecture. The hardware interface is comprehensive for its class, featuring 3 HDMI ports for connecting external devices such as set-top boxes, gaming consoles, or external speakers, and 2 USB ports for interfacing with hard drives or other USB-based media devices. For wireless connectivity, the TV includes built-in Wi-Fi and supports Miracast, enabling seamless integration with iPhone and Android compatible devices.

Performance, Usability & Everyday Experience

In real-world usage, the Kodak 32SE5001BL is designed to deliver a high-brightness visual experience. The high brightness display is a standout feature, specifically engineered to maintain flawless picture quality even in bright rooms, which is a common challenge for smaller LED screens. This is complemented by a wide color gamut and a high 4000:1 contrast ratio, which helps in producing deeper blacks and more vibrant colors, enhancing the overall depth of the 1366 x 768 HD Ready image.

The user experience is heavily driven by the included Infrared remote control. Recognizing the needs of modern viewers, the remote features one-click access to favorite apps, including YouTube, Prime Video, Sony Liv, and Zee5. This reduces the friction of navigating through menus, allowing for near-instantaneous access to streaming content. The remote operates within a maximum operating distance of 9 feet and comes with the necessary 2 AAA alkaline batteries included in the box.

Audio performance is another area where the Special Edition series seeks to provide an enhanced experience. Unlike many compact TVs that struggle with sound projection, this model features a 30 Watts output power. The audio system utilizes a digital audio enhancer and a surround sound mode to create a more immersive soundstage. The system is compatible with various audio formats, including MP3 audio and WMA, and includes an auxiliary input for additional audio sources.

Media playback is versatile, supporting common formats such as MPEG and AVI for video, and GIF and JPEG for image files. This makes the 2 USB ports highly functional for users who wish to play local media directly from a thumb drive or external storage device.

Design, Build Quality & Efficiency

The physical design of the Kodak 32SE5001BL is characterized by its sleek Black finish and compact dimensions. Measuring 11 x 73.5 x 44 cm, the unit is lightweight at approximately 3.6 kg (with the total item weight listed at 3.6 kg and 3 kg 600 g in different specification segments), making it easy to position. The design supports both tabletop use and wall mount configurations, providing flexibility for different room layouts.

Build quality is emphasized through the use of the A+ Grade DLED panel, which is described as durable, suggesting a focus on longevity for daily viewing. The aesthetic is modern and unobtrusive, fitting well into contemporary home decors.

From an efficiency standpoint, the television is rated with a 3 Star Energy Rating. It has an annual energy consumption of 38 kWh, making it a relatively efficient choice for users concerned with power usage. The device operates on a standard AC power source with a voltage requirement of 110 volts. The power consumption is tied to its 30-watt rating, which aligns with its audio and display capabilities.
