IFB 28 Litres 28SC5 Convection Microwave Oven

The IFB 28 Litres 28SC5 Convection Microwave Oven represents a significant leap in kitchen appliance versatility, positioning itself as a comprehensive culinary workstation rather than a simple reheating tool. Designed to serve as a compact all-in-one oven, this appliance is engineered to bridge the gap between traditional ovens and solo microwaves. It is specifically tailored for large-sized families, home bakers, and food enthusiasts who require a high-performance device capable of handling everything from delicate fermentations to high-temperature roasting.

In a modern kitchen landscape where space and multi-functionality are paramount, the IFB 28SC5 offers a sophisticated solution. By integrating air frying, grilling, convection baking, and specialized Indian cooking modes, it addresses the diverse needs of a festive or everyday kitchen. Its market placement is clearly defined: it is a premium, high-capacity convection microwave designed for users who demand professional-grade results—such as crispy fries or perfectly risen cakes—within a streamlined, countertop-friendly footprint.

Core Specifications & Architecture

At the heart of the IFB 28SC5 is a robust technical architecture designed for precision and power. The appliance operates on an electric fuel type, utilizing a convection heating method that ensures even heat circulation throughout the cavity. This is critical for achieving consistent textures in both baking and roasting tasks.

Power and Heating Capabilities

The device features a 900 W Microwave Output, providing the necessary intensity for rapid cooking and efficient defrosting. Unlike basic solo microwaves, this convection model can reach an ultra-high temperature of 240°C, making it significantly more capable for advanced culinary techniques. This high-temperature capability allows it to function as a smarter alternative to standard microwaves, offering the heat intensity required for browning and crisping.

Capacity and Internal Dimensions

With a 28 Litre capacity, the oven is optimized for larger households. The internal cavity is designed with practical utility in mind, accommodating:

• Standard dinner plates ranging from 10 to 12 inches.
• Microwave-safe bowls with volumes between 2.5 to 3 Litres.
• A durable, anti-rust stainless steel inner cavity that ensures longevity and hygienic cooking environments.

Control Systems and Programming

The user interface consists of an easy-to-use membrane touch keypad. This control panel provides access to a wide array of sophisticated programming options, including:

• 10 adjustable power levels for precise heat management.
• 300 Auto Cook Recipes, categorized into segments such as Indian Delights, Traditional Curries, Breakfast Selects, Organic Superbs, Daily Specials, and Brilliant Bakes.
• Specialized modes including Paneer/Ghee Mode and Ferment Mode.
• Essential utility functions like Auto Defrost, Keep Warm, and a dedicated timer.

Performance, Usability & Everyday Experience

The real-world performance of the IFB 28SC5 is defined by its 4-in-1 Combo capabilities. This allows users to combine different heating elements to optimize cooking times and textures. The available combinations include Micro + Convection, Micro + Grill, Grill + Convection, and the comprehensive Micro + Grill + Convection mode. This multi-stage cooking capability means a user can cook food through using microwave energy and then finish it with a grill or convection setting for a perfect crust.

Advanced Air Fry Technology

One of the standout performance features is the dedicated Air Fry Mode. This mode is split into two distinct effects to cater to different culinary preferences:

• AF1 Shallow Fry Effect: Ideal for items requiring a light, crispy exterior.
• AF2 Deep Fry Effect: Designed for a more substantial crunch, suitable for nuggets and fries.

Ease of Maintenance and Safety

Daily usability is enhanced through automated cleaning and maintenance features. The Steam Clean function assists in loosening food residue, while the Deodorize feature helps maintain a fresh internal environment. For households with children, the Child Safety Lock provides an essential layer of security, preventing accidental setting changes or operation.

The inclusion of 300 pre-programmed recipes significantly lowers the barrier to entry for novice cooks. By selecting a one-touch mode, the appliance manages the complexities of temperature and timing, ensuring that "Brilliant Bakes" or "Traditional Curries" are executed with professional consistency.

Design, Build Quality & Efficiency

The IFB 28SC5 is designed with a sleek silver finish that complements modern kitchen aesthetics. Despite its large 28L capacity, the design is described as compact and space-saving, making it an ideal fit for countertop placement without overwhelming the kitchen workspace.

Physical Dimensions and Build

The build quality is anchored by the use of anti-rust stainless steel for the inner cavity, which is vital for resisting the corrosive effects of steam and food acids over time. The physical footprint of the unit is:

• Height: 29 cm
• Width: 49.5 cm
• Depth: 42.4 cm
• Weight: 16.10 Kg

Energy Efficiency

In terms of energy consumption, the appliance is designed with efficiency in mind. Based on an estimated usage of 25 minutes per day, the power consumption is approximately 11.3 units per month. This makes it a predictable and manageable addition to a household's monthly utility budget.
