About the Author

Khushwant Singh, born in 1915 in Punjab's Hadali village (now in Pakistan), was a prolific author and journalist. He founded Yojana, edited several prominent publications like Illustrated Weekly of India, National Herald, and Hindustan Times, and published numerous novels, short stories, and biographies.

Among his notable works are Train to Pakistan, The Company of Women, Burial at Sea, and The Sunset Club. He also translated Hindi and Urdu novels, short stories, and poetry. Singh was a member of the Rajya Sabha from 1980 to 1986 and received both the Padma Bhushan (1974) and Padma Vibhushan (2007) awards.
