Sony's most awaited and hyped flagship smartphone - the Xperia Z1 , is slated to be announced at IFA Berlin tech show September 18.

BGR India cites sources to report that Sony's much-hyped Xperia Z1 smartphone will be launched in India at an event in New Delhi, on September 18. The site also notes that India may be among the countries where the device will be launched within two weeks of its global announcement. The site further speculates that the device could be priced around Rs. 50,000. However, there is no official word from the company on the expected pricing and availability of the Xperia Z1.

Sony's forthcoming top-end model is likely to sport following features :

  • The phone will feature 5 inch full HD screen.
  • It will have 2GB of RAM and 16GB of ROM which is expandable.
  • Xperia Z1 will also support NFC, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi like its predecessor Xperia Z.
  • 4G LTE, 3G, GPS, IPX5/7 certification, and Miracast , among others.
  • Xperia Z1 is expected to be powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 CPU clocked at 2.2GHz, which will work in tandem with 2GB of RAM and will have a 5-inch 1080p display that will boast Sony’s Triluminus display technology.
  • It will have 20.7-megapixel camera with a Sony G lens and dedicated BIONZ image processor. It will also feature a circular power button on the side and on the front, there is a 2-mega pixel camera for long video chat.
  • Another thing of note is that the phone has a dedicated camera button. Anybody who regularly takes pictures with their phone should be happy. We all know the pain of trying to comfortably hold your phone while reaching over to the on-screen power button.

Looking at the design of the phone, it appears that the glass back is sticking around for good, so hopefully it’s pretty strong to withstand the rough and toughs of daily life. Seeing as the phone is submerged in water at one point, it appears the Xperia Z1 will be waterproof like its predecessor from last year, the Xperia Z.

Design wise as the image shows, that it could have a metal frame much like the Nokia Lumia 925 and internally it will also have 16GB of memory, a microSD card slot and a 3,000 mAh battery. It will run on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. We have also heard that the phone will feature an augmented reality app called Info-eye which could work similar to Nokia’s CityLens app on its Lumia devices.

Sony Xperia Z1 is expected to be priced around Rs. 50, 000. Now how will Sony justify such high price, is yet to be discovered when the smartphone is launched ?
