Following the footsteps of Samsung Galaxy seies, Micromax has raised the bar for the competition with its Canvas series, and now in yet another sign of extending its dominance in the mid-range smartphone segment, the company is reportedly gearing up to launching two devices, the Micromax A240 and Canvas Doodle 2 .
Micromax has unveiled its latest smartphone, the A240, to compete with Samsung's Galaxy Mega 5.8 launched earlier this year. The phone features a large 5.7 inch HD display, a 1.2GHz quad-core processor and Android 4.2 Jelly Bean OS. The phone is likely to be priced in the same range as the Canvas 4, at approximately Rs. 18,000 but Micromax has not been revealed the phablet's launch date yet.

Micromax A240 will have following specifications :

  • Android v4.2 Jelly Bean Operating System.
  • 5.7-inch HD screen with a resolution of 1280X760.
  • It has a powerful 1.2GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6589 processor and offers dual-SIM support.

The phablet has features similar to the Canvas 4 including support for vertical panorama in camera app, Flip to mute, video pinning to home-screen support and Smart Pause. The phone is expected to be priced at Rs 18,000 similar to the Micromax Canvas 4.
If above information is true, then Micromax A240 will compete with phablets featuring large displays like the Sony Xperia Z Ultra that sports a large 6.4-inch display and Samsung Galaxy 5.8 and Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 that come with 5.8-inch and 6.3-inch displays respectively.

Apart from the ripe A240 rumours, the new Micromax Canvas Doodle 2 is another news-making device. The smartphone is the successor to the Micromax Canvas Doodle launched three months back. It looks similar to the Canvas 4 and will come with a stylus similar to its predecessor. The Canvas Doodle 2 will be powered by MediaTek quad core processor and a 720 p HD display.
According to the leaked specifications of Canvas Doodle 2, the smartphone will run on the latest Android 4.3 Jelly Bean operating system and will offer dual SIM support. The Micromax Canvas Doodle 2 will compete with the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 which is expected to be launched in September this year.
Micromax is having a pretty good year with its smartphone sales reaching all time high thanks to Canvas phone sales, however there have been a few setbacks as well like the recent bribery charges on company co-founder Rajesh Agrawal and patent dispute with Ericsson.
