Comparison : Micromax Canvas 4 Vs Micromax Canvas A116 HD
Body
Canvas HD was a game changer in Indian smartphone market. It brought a quad-core processor and a decent 720p screen at a price point below Rs 15,000.
Given this background, we expected Canvas 4 to have a more powerful processor, better design and a 1080p screen while staying within Rs 20,000 mark.
Canvas 4 is an evolution of Canvas HD. It's specifications are more or less same, except the camera.
Let’s compare these phones to see whether Micromax justifies the enhanced price :
1. Display : The display of both Canvas 4 and Canvas HD are similar in size and resolution. Both these devices have an IPS LCD capacitive touch screen with a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels which gives you a pixel density of 294 ppi. The quality of the screen used on Canvas 4 seems to be slightly better than the one found in Canvas HD. Even though resolution is same, the screen on the new Canvas shows slightly better and punchier colours.
2. Processor : Processors of both Canvas HD and Canvas 4 are same; both the devices are powered by quad core MediaTek MT6589 processor.
3. Weight : The Canvas 4 is an improvement over Canvas HD with 11 grams less weight and in thinness. Thus, Canvas 4 is slimmer and more compact compared to Canvas HD despite packing in a 5-inch screen.
4. Camera : Camera features of Micromax Canvas 4 is far superior to that of Micromax Canvas HD. Canvas 4 comes with a 13 MP rear camera which has a 5 element lens, similar to that in iPhone 5. . On the other hand canvas HD has a rear camera of 8MP. The front camera on the Canvas HD is 2.1 Megapixel whereas the Canvas 4 has a 5 Megapixel front camera. Thus clearly Micromax Canvas 4 has better camera features.
5. Memory : Both devices have similar 1GB RAM, however Canvas 4 comes with a 16 GB internal storage of which 10 GB is available to users. The storage is further extendable to 32 GB using microSD card. Canvas HD has standard 4GB of storage out of which 1.7 GB is available to the users. From the above data we can clearly see that internal software of Canvas 4 requires much more memory space than that of Canvas HD. Both of these devices use Android jelly bean 4.2.1 operating system
6. Other Features : Canvas 4 comes with additional features like “blow air to unlock” or “Kiss to unlock”. This is a unique unlocking concept in which the user has to blow on the screen to unlock it. Micromax claims that its most expensive feature is its “Eye tracking” feature, by virtue of which it pauses videos when user is not looking at the device (similar to that in Samsung galaxy S3). It also has Video pinning feature where you can watch videos and simultaneously perform other tasks like sending mails or messages.
So basically, all Micromax seems to have done with the Canvas 4 is add a better camera with some software enhancements.
