Vivo V9 Review : Is it a worthy buy?

The Chinese smartphone manufacturer Vivo has recently launched its latest flagship device Vivo V9. The device sports a premium metal unibody design with bezel-less display and is packed with great features like a powerful chipset, recent Android Oreo software, amazing camera quality and rear mounted fingerprint sensor. It has ample inbuilt storage space of 64GB which can be expanded upto 256GB using a microSD card to store lot of pictures, media and documents.

Design and Display :

Vivo V9 sports a 6.3 inch full-view bezel-less 19:9 display which is quite impressive and is protected with 2.5D curved Gorilla Glass. The display offers a resolution of 2280 x 1080 pixels and sport wider dynamic range, vibrant color reproduction, high contrast and brightness levels which enables the user to enjoy great multimedia content. It has an eye protect mode which ensures great results in low-light. Its looks and front design are quite similar to that of iPhone X. Unlike iPhone X’s full metallic body, Vivo V9 comes with a plastic body with a glass finish on the rear panel which further adds to its appeal.

Dual Rear cameras :

The device features a dual rear camera (16MP + 5MP) with single LED flash for taking flawless clicks with detailed and vivid color reproduction irrespective of the light conditions. The selfie camera is also AI-powered with additional features like portrait mode, HDR, Beautify mode, AR stickers, selfie-lighting effects and Live photos thus enhancing the overall selfie experience. The 24MP front snapper is amazing for clicking selfies, self-portraits and video calling.

Battery and Performance :

This dual SIM phone is powered by a 2.2GHz octa-core Snapdragon 626 chipset coupled with 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage which ensures great multitasking in day-to-day usage and high-end gaming. The inbuilt storage can ba expanded upto 256GB via a dedicated microSD card slot so that the user can easily store ample data, photos, music and other information. It runs on Android 8.1 Oreo operating system customised with feature rich FunTouch 4.1 UI on top. The 14nm process based Snapdragon 626 processor is very power efficient and the software used in Vivo V9 has been optimized to offer unhampered experience to the users. This UI supports gesture based navigation which works without any delay or lag. In terms of connectivity, it supports 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi. It is packed with 3260mAH battery which can easily last for more than a day on a single charge. The only drawback is that it does not support fast charging feature.

Additional Features :

To unlock the phone, the user is provided with the Face Unlock and Fingerprint sensor. Its FAce Unlock feature is powered by AI and is supposedly the fastest we have seen on the phone till date. The fingerprint sensor is aptly located on the right and is very fast to operate. This enhances the overall user experience. It also comes with Smart Split Screen feature which splits the screen by sliding up the control centre. This ensures most efficient multitasking. The device comes with Motorbike Mode which enables you to handle incoming calls to ensure safety while driving like auto-rejecting calls, muting notifications, assess speed before answering. With App clone feature, you can clone and run a dual instance of popular apps like WhatsApp, Facebook and more.

Verdict :

At a price of Rs 22,990, Vivo V9 is a great value for money with attractive features like amazing camera quality, ample 4GB RAM and full view edge-to-edge bezel-less display. This is probably the best phone in a price range between 20-25K as no other mobile comes with 4K video recording, 90% screen to body ratio, AI Face Beauty and Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. The USP of this phone is the Dual rear camera and iPhone X like display. It is probably the first phone to hit the market with an iPhone X like appearance. The phone is available for purchase in colours such as Pearl Black, Champagne Gold and Sapphire Blue. It will definitely give stiff competition to Oppo F7, Moto X4 and Honor 8 Pro.
